The Garn Race first took place, on Llanfairynghornwy Sports Day, forty years ago. Three of the
men who competed were present to cheer on the runners in the first Garn Race since 2001 (Foot
and Mouth year) and the first organised under WFRA guidelines.
In the senior race Rhys Owen led from start to finish, with Cybi's Irfon Rowlands never far behind.
Unfortunately there was no senior female competing, but in the Junior Race (1.5m/400') Nicola
Berry from Stockport had a superb run, finishing only seconds behind winner Ieuan Evans.
