Llanthony Show Hill Race       5th August 2017       Results

Record Broken!

A cool showery day in the heart of the Black Mountains with show-goers scurrying for shelter from the heaviest downpours. The fell race field of 54 included seven local youngsters who persuaded the organiser they could get round in one piece, and indeed Solar Buckler did that so well, he finished in fourth place!

At the front, Dan Sandford from the Forest of Dean club ran strongly to head Mynydd Du's Tom Mollekin by 52 seconds, with Pont y Pwl's Jonathan Like in third.

Women's record holder Helen Brown of Mynydd Du chased hard but young Sophie Horrocks of Rossendale Harriers came in a minute ahead to break Helen's record by just one second, with Ruth Pickvance in bronze position.

The organiser, and indeed the runners, are grateful to Joc Dodd, Jane Bayliss, Rob Brown, Geoff Bayliss and Syd Wheeler for marshalling out on the hill in the rain, while Syd also scuttled back down to help record the finishers.
