SLEEPWALKER 2009 is on
for the 28th of November 18:00 from Talybont on Usk, Powys. The 20
Mile Night-Time Trail Race held under UK Athletics / Trail Running Association
rules (Permit 105=09) is now in its 3rd
successful year.
First run in 2007 and set to become a modern classic, it appeals to fast
runners and challenge runners alike. Starting from Talybont on Usk, the route
climbs steadily through the ancient forests of the Talybont valley, offering
spectacular starlit views of the reservoir and mountains beyond. Water is
available at the Neuadd Reservoir, about 8 miles in, with a fantastic flat
forest section to follow , before a couple of miles on a minor road brings you
to checkpoint 3, where hot tea went down well last year (it was -5C), followed
by the most testing part of the course. Climbing past Dolygaer Outdoor centre,
you're now heading for home - just a barren windswept moorland section at
nearly 2000 feet high to cross, skirting round the crags at the end then it's
flat out downhill all the way back to Talybont. Showers, refreshments, even a
pint (if you're fast enough) await.
New Course Record is 3:06
(Army 2008)
Last year the Army
scored well taking 1,2 and 4 with Les Croupiers RC taking a closely contested
3rd.
