Sugar Loaf Race 9 April 2011 Results
Young Emma Bayliss revived this dying fell race last year and is making a great success of it.
Well over 100 runners from as far afield as Derbyshire, the Lakes, North Wales and Berkshire
made the journey to sunny Abergavenny and enjoyed balmy weather and stunning views from the
Pen y Fal summit.
The winner was a Scotsman resident in the nearby Wye Valley, Rob Gordon (Mynydd Du), who was delighted with
his form three weeks before his major 2011 target, the 3 Peaks race up in Yorkshire. MDC’s Matt Collins
in his first race for a while was less than a minute behind with Chepstow’s Paul Murrin in third.
Chepstow’s James Blore and Paul Dodd joined Paul M in the winning men’s team.
Katie Beecher of the Cardiff Les Croupiers club came from behind to overtake Sam Knile
in the race down the track from the summit for the women’s prize, followed by Mynydd Du’s
Angela Jones who also won the F40 category.
Crispin Flower, Paul Dodd and Steve Herington took men’s age group prizes; Joc Dodd and
Brenda Avery the remaining women’s age cats.
