The weather was dry, overcast and the summits were clear (but there was a cold
North Easterly wind). After the long dry spell conditions were good underfoot resulting
in fast times. The race was dominated by Dark Peak Fell Runners who took the first 4 places.
First home was Es Tresidder in a time of 1 hour 36 minutes and 15 seconds, more than 5 minutes
inside the old record! The ladies race was won by Andrea Rowlands of Eryri also in a new record
time of 1.57.01. Despite falling and breaking a tooth Don Williams (Eryri) still went on to win
the over 60 category. Alwyn Oliver took a tumble descending off Yr Elen and was unable to continue.
Thanks to the runners, marshals and Ogwen Mountain Rescue who went to his assistance.
Alwyn had stitches to a leg wound and was released the same evening. Apologies for the delayed
Prizegiving. Those who missed out will have a second opportunity at Moel y Gest on Tuesday.
Thanks to Dewi Sinclair, Team Dolly, George Inn and everyone who helped on the day. Ross
The second race in the inov-8 WFRA Open/Welsh Championships takes place at Cribyn
in south Wales next Saturday 15th May. Pairs of Fell shoes will be awarded to the
first 3 in most age categories as long as the runner completes a minimum of 4 races
including one at each distance. Why not combine the race with a recce of the Black
Mountains route on the Sunday?
