This was the fourth running of the race. Weather conditions were ideal, cool and clear although the
ground was quite wet in places, particularly the last stretch to the finish. Numbers were up from
previous times. This and the increased entry fee helped cover the cost of the prizes, gifts to the
marshals and the farmer who owns the quarry and also a small donation to Team Dolly.
Sam Smith of Eryri Harriers was the overall winner in 58min 41sec. Newcomer to the race Helen Fines
of Calder Valley had a splendid run to finish 10th overall and set a new course record with a time
of 64min 40sec. Team Dolly turned up as usual to support the race with radio communications at the
check points and to provide high quality photography.
I would like to thank the Welsh FRA and Geoff Clegg in particular for their back-up, my fellrunning
friends who helped in various ways and Wynn, Pat and Kath who cooked and baked and provided refreshments.
It is apparent from the feedback that socialising over a cup of tea and cake after the race adds to the
pleasure of being out there in wild Wales.
Next year the race will take place on Sunday 3rd October.
This was the penultimate race in the WFRA Open Welsh Championhip series and the last race in the WFRA North Wales series.
