The Welsh 1000m Peaks Race, now in its 42nd year, is not only unique but ranks as one of the toughest fell races in the country. It starts at the sea and finishes at the summit of Snowdon, visiting Carnedd Llewellyn, Carnedd Daffydd, Glyder Fawr and Carnedd Ugain en-route.

The Race which includes categories for mountaineers as well as fell runners attracted over 300 entries. In contrast to last year, the weather was perfect for the competitors: dry, cool and mostly clear. With the cooperation of the land owners we now have new routes across the Ogwen Valley...no more punishing descent of the tarmacced Water Board Road.

In the A class, Colin Donelly of Lochaber AC, returning after injury, posted a record time of 4:04:32 for the long course which now includes a newly- promoted Glyder Fawr. This is Colin’s 11th win...impressive at 53. First Women was Lizzie Wraith of Bath AC in the excellent time of 5.13.26 Many time winner of the mountaineer’s class, Bob Hind, took on the challenge of the elite 5 peaks mountaineers class winning in 5.58.11.

“Thanks for all efforts of the organising team, last weekend. I really enjoyed the race and will definitely be back in future years, it's a great route and I'm sure there's a minute or 2 to take off with a slightly better line off the Glyders.
Still not quite recovered yet, but basking in a glow of satisfaction.”

The short fell race which starts at Ogwen and goes over Glyder Fawr and Ugain before finishing at the summit of Snowdon was won by Edward Harmer of Eryri Harriers in 2.00.48. The first female was Clare Miller of London Heathside runners in 2.14.18
